DIY Project Using amykathryn Fabric

This Easy DIY Project is a super cute & simple way to dress up the planters that hold your herbs and flowers. All you need is fabric(we recommend amykathryn fabric!), scissors, glue (hot glue or tacky glue), and some trim.

What have you been crafting up lately? Any DIY Project you’d like to share with us?

We’ve been working hard around here – getting out amykathryn bags to stores for the Holidays. I love our Fall collection color combinations and the paisley printed fabric. Last week we had a mini photoshoot here for our DIY tote that we will post soon. We will have a kit that has all the cut pieces for you to sew up your very own tote. We want you crafters out there to get creative and have some fun with our fabrics! Here’s the tote hopefully all of you will want to make!

And I know you’ve all been wondering how my plants are! So here’s an update on our succulent wall on the patio:

It is very happy and thriving with some growing plants and roots! I love how the plants grow in every direction.

And last week we just finished our Spring 2013 collection catalogue. You can see it here. We need to sell all of our Fall bags before December 1st in order to order the Spring bags. So help us out and shop for amykathryn bags for some great presents this Holiday season! You can’t go wrong with our duffel bags. And then we might be able to get the new Spring bags in next year in February. Thanks for being a great subscriber and friend! Always, AMY

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for over a year! If you’re new around here, this handbag blog is more than that. I just blog about my life as a handbag designer. Since I’m quite airy and a lover of many things, we post a lot about my inspiration that comes from everywhere! Blogging all still seems new to me- I wanted to announce today that we added to our blog layout. But I realized that I don’t even know what those things on the right are called – I call them buttons. (The new ‘buttons’ that are on the right underneath the categories.) We made links to our first post about What is amykathryn? and in that post we have links to many more about amykathryn. And the What is My Bag is Her Bag? button links to all the information about how we feature the women that make amykathryn bags. Here is where I share with you all that I do that I love. So I hope you’ve been inspired in your life to do what you love.

I was thinking of my literal button box as I write this post. Now that I’ve gotten into my boxes of buttons and trims and everything crafty, I’m reminded that I need to do a Make it Happen post again soon. Stay tuned… Ideas are brewing! It’s a wonder that I ever get anything accomplished with all the ideas I have and inspiration coming at me- otherwise known as distractions! But back to my funky pile of buttons…

Do you have a button jar?

I love that with the click of a not-so-literal button I can share so much with you! Let me know what you’d like to see here on the handbag blog of amykathryn. Thanks! AMY

O boy! I just got back to my desk where I have a pile of orders that need to be processed today. I have to shake off this vacation mode from the weekend. I just got back from a great weekend in Carlsbad where I was visiting my sister. We went surfing in Encinitas and body surfing too! I also helped her set up her new place and room. We mostly got stuff from World Market – I love that place!

So, good news! Our shipment will be here tomorrow! It’s a little earlier than expected which is nice. So for all of you who have ordered on our website, we are going to ship your orders first thing after we unload tomorrow. Since I’m really bogged down with everything, I’ll throw out some of my fave pics from Instagram in the past couple weeks. Enjoy!

Alright, off to do some invoicing and getting the warehouse ready for an onslaught of handbags! Always, AMY

I just turned my rooftop deck into a loungy garden! Just in time for many house guests this summer. I’m growing tomatoes, herbs and lettuce – you know, the essentials.
This is my succulent starter box. This old glass milk bottle carrier has 8 sections. Once the plants get too big for the box, I transplant them to a larger home.

Mmm… I went to the farmer’s market down the street today and got a coconut. Yum!

I’m documenting my tomato progress, so once they ripen, I’ll post the whole process.

My Grandma just retired from driving this year and my brother bought her car. He got a new CA license plate and so the retired plate hangs in the garden in honor of Grandma! I’ll be relaxing as well as getting inspired in this space for sure! Always, AMY

Check out what amykathryn inspiration looks like through the Instagram lens. We love it! It creates great story boards with original content. @amykathrynbags

and here is a ‘color in nature’ story board from our ‘real’ work as designers and lovers of color! All of these are my pictures – from left to right; grass in Seattle, water in Islamorada, Koi fish scales, beach in Hawaii, gerber daisies, succulent plant from my succulent wall.

Have a great weekend everyone! Always, AMY

What you carry in your handbag says a lot about you.  For this edition of TOP 5, I decided to ask the designer of amykathryn herself “what is in your bag!?”  Here’s a peek at what Amy is currently carrying around with her:

1. Protection from the sun is a MUST! Z Block Serious Sunblock; “Because I burn in a minute…”

2. Her go-to lip gloss/moisturizer is Twist & Pout.  It comes in a round, colorful little container and is SPF 20.

3. This is Amy’s first (brand new!) good camera and she said she is obsessed! It’s the Red Nikon Coolpix L120.  Stay tuned to this blog for samples of her developing photography skills!

4. Joico Color Therapy Restorative Styling Oil is Amy’s pick for keeping her hair conditioned.  She carries this small bottle around with her because “I love how shiny & smooth it makes my hair.”

5. A chocolate covered peppermint stick (not pictured) from the Neiman Marcus Restaurant sits in Amy’s bag “…for a moment when I need a pick-me-up!” Designing and managing a business requires energy!!!

Hope you were inspired! What’s in your bag?! Want to be featured in a Top 5: In My Bag Now post on the amykathryn Blog?  Email me at

Sometimes I wonder where my love for animals comes from. Is it because man has lived with beast since our existence or because of my nurturing nature or that I just like pets… All valid theories, until I simply take a look around my parent’s house and notice all the critters I have always seen. (Not to mention all the pets that have always been running around like a zoo) Here’s some of my non-living big influences for loving animals:O & colorful paisley is always hot! Always, AMY
